What made you choose Red Adept Editing?

I was browsing for an editor and saw the name recommended in a self-published book and decided to give Red Adept a try.

You’ve worked with Jessica on content editing. What did you enjoy most about working with her?

I’ve worked with Jessica as a Developmental Editor, and she is fantastic! She does a great job at giving constructive criticism and tells you what she likes about the book. She catches a lot of details, and I think that is very important. I think an editor needs to care about your work, and I’ve used another developmental editor who acted like she hated the book entirely, and Jessica isn’t like that at all. I have only great things to say about Jessica!

What inspired you to start a writing career?

I read so many romance novels that one day I got this idea for a story and decided to write my own. I found out it was a lot harder than I originally thought!

Do you have a favorite place or time of day to write?

I like to write in my office because all my stuff is in there: reference books, calendars, colored pens 😉 I can generally write any time of day, but I find that I’m more focused in the morning.

Do you like to plan before you write? Or do you prefer to start and see where the story goes?

I do a little of both. The story starts from a plan and then I just write and as I write, I get other ideas on where the story can go. I like to flesh out character motivations before I start writing.

What part of self-publishing do you enjoy the most?

That I can do what I want, say what I want, post what I want, write what I want . . . all when I want to do it!

You have some very steamy covers. Who does your cover work?

Kim Killion from The Killion Group did my Girls with Guns Series. Jaycee DeLorenzo with Sweet and Spicy Designs worked on my Love in Lone Star Series. And Talina with Bookin’ It Designs is doing my Irresistible Billionaires Series.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I like to travel and exercise. I spend time with my husband and two daughters. I read books. I love General Hospital and watching stuff on Netflix.

What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever been given?

To write what’s in your heart and not what’s hot right now. And to Write Naked (Jennifer Probst).
